Volunteers needed to map Wiltshire’s public art

Know Your Place is a digital mapping project that is setting out to locate Wiltshire heritage – and it’s asking for volunteers. Volunteers will help locate, record and photograph public art in Wiltshire. Very little is known about the whereabouts, extent and condition of public art in the county.

Vote of confidence for new arts body

Arts Council England has announced a new set of National Portfolio Organisations, awarding Salisbury Playhouse £1,277,944 each year over four years. The funding supports plans for the three arts organisations in Salisbury – Salisbury Playhouse, Salisbury International Arts Festival and Salisbury Arts Centre – to merge to create a dynamic, diverse and resilient arts offering for Salisbury and Wiltshire.

Restoration of chalk badge begins

Turf-cutting took place in June to signal the beginning of a full restoration programme of the First World War hillside badge of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. The badge is to be found above the village of Sutton Mandeville in the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, although currently its outline is indistinct.
