If you want to spend a joyful evening out over the next couple of days - then head to the Salisbury Playhouse, where Stage 65 the theatre's exceptional youth theatre group, alongside Jigsaw Youth Dance Company is putting on a production of The Wizard of Oz.

This bold new production, includes a cast of 60 young people, more than 100 costumes, and a real dog. It is a fantastic evening out with wonderful performances, great puppetry skills from Ethan Speed. Kitty Fox takes on the role of Dorothy with confidence and definitely brings a tear to the eye with Somewhere over the Rainbow - just lovely.

My only criticism was that a few performers were a bit screechy and gabbled their words but this is a youth production and their enthusiasm can be forgiven.

When a vicious tornado tears through Kansas, Dorothy and her dog Toto are thrown into the wonderful world of Oz. Seeking a way home, they journey down the Yellow Brick Road towards Emerald city in the hopes of finding the wizard. On the way, they meet a scarecrow, a tinman and a cowardly lion who all need a little help too.

Great set and costume designs by Bronia Housman. The Wizard of Oz is being directed by Dave Orme and fine tuned choreography is by Julia Cave. James Whitcher is the musical director.
