Salisbury City Council is pleased to announce that visitors and residents will now be greeted by new welcome signs when arriving at our city. The new signs show silhouettes of iconic Salisbury buildings and monuments including the Cathedral, Poultry Cross, the War Memorial and some of our major churches.
Designed and produced by Salisbury company Signs in Motion in consultation with Officers and Councillors, they also include an image of the City Council crest as well as the words ‘Welcoming traders, visitors and pilgrims since 1227’. The signs continue to celebrate our twin and sister cities, to commemorate the signing of the City Charter in 1227 and our long standing tradition of welcoming all comers.
Some of the welcome signs have already been installed beside the main roads into the city, with the rest to follow over the next couple of weeks.
Chair of the Environmental Working Group, Cllr John Farquhar said, “I am delighted with the fresh new artwork for the welcome signs, which reflects the beautiful and historical nature of our city. It has been a great team effort and we hope the signs will make an excellent impression on the visitors to our city”.
