A new young adult novel, titled The Firestone, is set to launch in WHSmith Salisbury on Saturday 22nd February (10am-3pm). The author, Francesca Tyer, has recently moved to the area and The Firestone is her debut novel. It has been published by Authors Reach LTD, a selective publishing house based in Wiltshire.

The launch day will include book signings, which will be held on the ground floor of WHSmith near the entrance, and a competition to guess the number of words in the book. The winner will be notified sometime after the event and will receive a free signed copy.

The Firestone tells the story of a teenage boy, James Fynch, who doesn't believe in magic until his discovery of a co-existing magical world changes everything. James suddenly becomes bound to a quest for the firestone, one of four mythical crystals able to destroy the darkness which has risen in this parallel world.

The novel is categorised as fantasy and is perfect for lovers of His Dark Materials, the Lord of the Rings, and other magical novels and tales. The story is filled with myth and magic and hints at the dark power of modern technology. It can be enjoyed by all ages and everyone is welcome at the launch event.

Francesca said: "The Firestone attempts to capture the myth and magic that we all want to believe in. It explores the impossible nature of time, the dark side of technology and the human ability to conquer self-doubt and find inner strength.

"I am excited to officially launch my first novel in a few weeks time and would like to welcome everyone from Salisbury and beyond to join me."
