Local community choir The Village Singers is excited to announce that this December they will be treating their audience to a magical musical extravaganza like never before, accompanied by a full orchestra, a privilege usually reserved for the most prestigious of Christmas performances.

Musical Director, Rachel McCorry, describes the importance of singing the road less travelled and why the Arts Council funding was instrumental to this year’s concert.

“We are a choir who love to make music, for the joy of our audiences but also for ourselves. We all benefit from the power that music and singing has to support mental health and positive lifestyles, and to bring people together.

We also love to learn and develop musically. Performing with a live orchestra is an incredibly special and uplifting experience both for the choir and also for the audience. We have wanted to put on a Christmas concert with orchestra for several years.

However, sadly the cost of putting on an orchestral concert is hugely prohibitive and it wouldn’t be possible without additional funds. That’s why we are incredibly grateful for the support of public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. It’s a huge accolade for the choir and I’m really excited to bring the choir and orchestra together!

And it doesn’t stop there! Anyone who follows The Village Singers will know that they never do things by halves. In addition to an evening of fabulous music and singing there will be a bar and raffle and they will also be welcoming a special seasonal visitor!

The Village Singers are an inclusive, non-audition, community choir. They are always looking to push the boundaries of musicianship, performance and audience experience. Their concerts range from the poignant and reverent to dramatic ‘last night of the proms’-style musical picnics. They have graced local weddings, performed in stunning venues across the world including Carnegie Hall and even flash-mobbed at Heathrow!

The 2023 Christmas concert will be held on Saturday 16th December in St Andrew’s Church, Chippenham. If your curiosity is piqued, you can get tickets via their website www.villagesingers.co.uk/events. Oh… and yes, children are positively encouraged to come along!
