Sue Lind discovers what’s in store for visitors to Devizes this Christmas.

DEVIZES becomes the perfect festive town at this time of year, offering an inspiring choice of original gift ideas, a vintage market, Santa Fun Run and magical lantern parade. The lantern parade is “the biggest and the best” in Wiltshire, says Loz Samuels, artistic director of organiser Devizes Outdoor Celebratory Arts (DOCA), and is visited by 3,000 people.

Part of the parade is a giant elephant lantern, restored after birds and mice made their nests in it when it was kept at Caen Hill Countryside Centre. The elephant continues to evolve and this year sports a peacock on its head, long eyelashes and paisley patterns, which you can see all lit up on November 24.
